Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals, including a woman, suspected of involvement in an interstate drug trafficking network. The arrests were made in Kulgam district following the recovery of heroin and other incriminating materials.
Khokon Chandra Das, 50, was assaulted near Keurbhanga Bazar in Damudya in Shariatpur district, about 100 kilometres south of Dhaka, on Wednesday night. He died on Saturday. Prothom Alo newspaper said a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the three accused on Sunday morning from Kishoreganj, about 100 kilometres northeast of Dhaka.
The accused, identified as Tariq Mir, a resident of Maldoora of Shopian district in south Kashmir, was the fifth person arrested in the case which came to light when Singh was arrested along with three terrorists including a most wanted Hizbul Mujahideen commander in January this year.
According to the order, Singh was awarded Jammu and Kashmir's highest police award in 2018.
The terrorists ambushed the police team which had gone to Mir Bazaar area to investigate a road accident case.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition, which includes an AK-47 rifle, magazines, grenades, RPG-7 rocket launcher, was recovered from the encounter site, he said.
